FISH HOEK HISTORY

Along the false bay coast lies the peaceful town of Fish Hoek with its rugged beauty, long white soft sand beach, warm bathing waters and many natural attractions which include two famous golf courses nearby (one on our door step), and one of the most majestic ocean view drives in the world (Chapmans Peak) and one of the top visited nature reserves in the world (Cape Point nature reserve).   Fish Hoek is arguably one of Cape Town’s most popular family beach destinations. Close to shops famous restaurants, its natural beauty is favoured by many overseas travellers looking to escape the maddening crowd and concrete jungle.

Fish Hoek is situated in the southern suburbs along our peninsula with many nearby beaches to visit which include long beach famous world-wide for its surfing and boulders beach for one of the world’s famous renown breeding penguin colonies, and Noordhoek famous for horse riding on miles of long stretches of beach.

Nearby is the Silvermine River which is surrounded by wetland nature reserve. This is an ideal haven for water birds and is packed with indigenous reeds and other gems unique to the cape flora kingdom and has a network of boardwalks perfect for visitors to go bird watching or just strolling.

Fish Hoek is famous for its small local trekking/rowing boat. Make the most of our delicious fresh line fish caught right on our doorstep and children can join in the fun, help to pull up the fish nets and see all the surprises.

Fish Hoek being one of the most popular tourist destinations with its incredible beauty it is easy to see why... A wonderful water playground of windsurfing/kayaking/canoeing/scuba diving/shark cage diving and the most famous of all.....

WHALE WATCHING

From late August is the maternity month for whales in the bay, in fact right in front of our lovely guest home overlooking the sea.

The bay is one of the favourite spots for migrating Southern Right Whales to calve and nurse their young. Dolphins and seals are also frequently seen. Visitors can sit on the colourful benches on our famous Jager Walk while absorbing the surrounding beauty of the ocean and mountains
Fish Hoek Museum has fascinating displays of the history of the town/peers cave and its unique features.

Two minutes’ drive away visitors can browse through antique/knick-knack shops, a large selection of crafts and handwork by local artists and crafters and coffee shops with something to tempt all.

With so many treasures on our door step Fish Hoek is waiting to be discovered.
